Adjudication Workshop at AACTFest 2017
Betsy Willis, a regular adjudicator of CTAM performances, is conducting this workshop designed to train new adjudicators, refresh skills of current adjudicators, and expand the way in which we view productions. The experience she brings as an instructor is:
- Training at the state level by Shirley Harbin
- Training at the national level by Annette Procrunier and Kathy Pingel
- Adjudicated Michigan state AACTFest in 2013
- Adjudicating Indiana state AACTFest in 2017
This workshop will be an integral part of the festival weekend. It is therefore not practical for AACTFest competing show participants, either onstage or working as crew, to take this class.
We will begin at 3:00 on Friday afternoon to learn about the different forms of adjudication used by AACT, discuss the guidelines used by AACT for adjudication, and outline how we will proceed as a class for the rest of the weekend.
We will break for dinner at 4:30 on Friday so that we are ready to be in the theatre for the first performance at 6:00. That night we will observe two of the three adjudications in the theatre and meet as a group to discuss the third show and the previous adjudications.
On Saturday we will meet after each show (as it is adjudicated) to do our own adjudications and hone our skills. We may lunch together if we feel we want more time to cover material. After the last show on Saturday we will conduct our mock selection of the shows that we feel should advance to regional competition using the AACT protocol.
Sunday morning we will meet to summarize what we learned and answer any questions you may have.
A short session after brunch may be added if the class participants want to discuss the real results versus our mock result.
Cost for the class is $50 for CTAM individual members and $65 for nonmembers. This is in addition to the AACTFest registration fee. Visit the Bay City Players website to register for AACTFest and this class. CTAM scholarship funds may be used for registration.
